"Save the Manatees" Endangered Species Enamel Pin Brooch.
"Manatees - you'll always hold a special place in my heart." —RoV Owner
"When I was a kid in the 90's, our family would go out to Florida every Summer. Apart from the humidity frizzing up my hair, I remember having the most magical time. Mainly because growing up in Southern California, our aquatic encounters consisted around going to Sea World (boo!). I'll never forget the day that I first came across a manatee at a Florida State Wildlife Park - I was in awe. So friendly, so serene - no wonder they were the inspiration for mermaid tales throughout history (it's true, look it up). This daze soon faded when I learned about how endangered they were, due to boating. Because of animal and environmental activists like us, boating laws have become stricter, providing more protection for manatees. You guys - this was it for me, this was the moment I knew I had to stand-up for the rights of animals.
But there is another threat to these sea cows now face: climate change. You see, these are fresh water mammals, and when Florida is battered by ever-growing hurricanes every year, these manatees have their freshwater homes shrinking year-on-year, often riddled by the contamination of saltwater that has crashed inland.
The majority of you may have never come across a manatee, and that's ok, but when you do, you'll realize why this particular item is so near and dear to me."
